The Democrats Boomerang pie

See the full cartoon here.

The lesson here is, “People with glass dossier’s shouldn’t throw pies” or something like that.

Prickly City: Liberals can be hypocrites too

I have to write the comic strip a few weeks in advance. At the time they were written, only two late night hosts had said anything about the Harvey Weinstein scandal while similar stories about conservatives were covered aggressively. As they should be.

I am not saying that conservative transgressors are being picked on, I am saying that the sexual assault charges of liberals are not covered with the same intensity.

The Academy has revoked the membership of Weinstein, yet accused rapist Bill Cosby and convicted child rapist and fugitive Roman Polanski are members in good standing.

Not only have Hollywood actors continued to work with Polanski in spite of his conviction, he was given a standing ovation when he won the Academy Award in 2003. A standing ovation to a convicted rapist of a 13 year old girl! Since he would have been arrested if he had entered the country to accept the award,  he did not attend, but Harrison Ford delivered it to him personally.

Liberals can be hypocrites too.

The New GOP

See the full cartoon here.

So the Bannonization of the Republican Party continues. The gist of this cartoon is a notion I’ve been knocking around in my noggin for a while. Look for a full blown cartoon essay on this very subject coming soon.

Prickly City: My side vs your side?

I know some readers will take this as saying that the anti-gun group are the ones who are unbending on the issue of guns, but that is not the case. Both sides are unyielding, which is why nothing will get done.

Bruce Rauner re-election roll out

See the full cartoon here.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner launched his re-election bid with a video of him riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle across the state. Given the lack of achievement of his administration riding a motorcycle may the ONLY achievement of this administration…

Prickly City: A repeal isn’t that easy

The only way to have the gun control anti-gun activists want is to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

It reads:  A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The amendment was intended to prevent the Federal Government from disarming the state militias and replacing them with a Federal standing army.

The road to repeal is not an easy one.

Prickly City: When is the time to discuss this?

When is the time to have a discussion about gun violence? After a horrific event like what occurred in Las Vegas?

One side will say it is too soon while the other is more motivated to press their viewpoint. Gun violence needs to be talked about now.

Prickly City: What is normal?

I live in Chicago. My wife and I were walking along the Riverwalk one day and as we walked past the Trump Tower, she said that she was tired of having to hear about and think of the president every day. It’s true. With previous presidents, most people could go days without thinking about them. But whether you are anti-Trump or pro-Trump you are aware of him everyday.

I challenge you to go through the news feed on Facebook without someone having posted something Trump related.

Illinois’ business appeal

See the full cartoon here.

Well, Toyota Mazda is the latest to say “thanks but no thanks” to moving to Illinois. With onerous taxes, corrupt and dysfunctional politics and occasional weather that can kill you, it’s hard to imagine why any sane person would pass up the chance to set up business in the Land of Lincoln…

Rahm’s World

See the full cartoon here.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel unveils his latest city budget where there are *gasp* more taxes.

BTW, this cartoon is based on the classic painting by Andrew Wyeth ‘Christina’s World‘.

Prickly City: To run or not to run, that is the question

I try to encourage people to run for local office. Whether I agree with them politically or not, we need new ideas and more diversity in government.

Unfortunately, besides from the intense scrutiny, it is the vast amount of money that they would have to raise that generally keeps them from seeking office.

Prickly City: What about the cake?

I am a big fan of the Smithereens and when I launched Prickly City, I had Pat DiNizio play at a party at my house. It was amazing!

I made Winslow a fan as well and I try to mention it in the strip every year.

Prickly City: Subjective reality

Obese America

See the full cartoon here.

A slew of reports out this week confirming what we all knew: America is fat and getting fatter with 70% of adults being overweight. 40% considered obese and one-in-five children also considered obese.

Prickly City: The Hate/Love free speech thing

I love that we can protest and state opinions in this country without having to worry about government repercussions.

There could be other repercussions such as loss of friends, job, esteem but the government will not have you arrested and sent to a gulag or re-education camp. Not yet anyway.

Trump’s mystery Chicago cop

See the full cartoon here.

President Donald Trump mentioned his mystery Chicago Cop again. This time saying this police officer’s plan would end crime “immediately”. Given the president’s repeated distain for due process we can imagine what those solutions may be.

As reported in the Chicago Tribune: In President Donald Trump’s retelling, a mysterious Chicago police officer’s plan to solve the city’s crime problem keeps getting better. On Wednesday, the president told Fox News host Sean Hannity that the unnamed Chicago motorcycle cop whom Trump claimed he met on the campaign trail said that “if they let us do our job we could stop [violent crime] immediately.”

Prickly City: More important things to worry about

The president should never have gotten so involved in the NFL take a knee protests. He ended up turning it into a bigger issue than it was originally.  Instead of trying to bring the country together, he divided us further.

Prickly City: Actions and consequences

I am a first amendment absolutist. We all have the right to non-violent protest and to express our opinions. However, these rights could have consequences. Others who disagree can boycott your product, comment on social media or mount their own (non-violent) protest.

Protesting and/or expressing an opinion has consequences.

Prickly City: Was it a #fakevote?

Had Hillary Clinton put more of her campaign’s effort into rural areas instead of the urban centers that already supported her, we might not be having to say “President Trump”.

Bruce Rauner’s decider

It appears that Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has proven recently that he stands for pretty much nothing, can’t even say if he is running for re-election.

Prickly City: What happened?

I get flak from some readers saying that Hillary Clinton is old news and I should just leave it alone.

She hasn’t disappeared, she still is an important figure in the Democratic Party. Many believe she will run again in 2020.
