Prickly City: Choose not to fan the flames of anger

Anger is a natural human emotion. Unfortunately when we act in anger, bad things usually happen. When we are angry we do not listen  and we lash out at each other. Not ways to accomplish anything.

We often can’t choose our initial feelings of anger but we can choose not to post on social media until we have calmed down.

Prickly City: Lift the veil of fury

It is easy to dismiss someone’s anger as unreasonable or whiny but all that does is widen the divide between us. Anger tends to be based in fear so we need to address those fears in a reasoned way. Easier said than done, especially since fear is often irrational.

Prickly City: Can you just ask?

Nice idea Carmen, but it will never work. Telling someone not to be angry pretty much guarantees the person will become angry.

Prickly City: Is there an app for that?

The world does seem to be filled with anger and darkness, but the old adage “It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness” is still true today. It just need a little updating.

Prickly City: Smombie!

I found this great term for looking into a smartphone while walking: Smombie. Smart phone zombie. Apparently it is a term used in Germany. I think we need to get this into general usage.

Prickly City: Have we all lost our minds?

Have we? Maybe. There was talk of impeachment before Donald Trump was even inaugurated.

As you can tell from my cartoons I am not a Trump fan, but I think we need to wait until we know the results of the investigations before we talk impeachment.

I was also trying to give a subtle reference here to Article 4 of the 25th Amendment which states:

“Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

If the Vice President along with a majority of cabinet members  decide that the president is too unstable to carry out his job,  the VP  can temporarily take over as Acting President. If the president disputes his removal from office, the Congress must decide whether the president should regain the powers of his office or whether the VP should remain in charge.

It has never happened before and it would be pretty wild if it did, but these days you never know what will happen.

Prickly City: Will he tweet this?

Carmen is right, so much of the damage done to this administration is self-inflicted. Someone needs to change the password on his twitter account!

Prickly City: Being fair?

Yes, he is that much of a stinker. The way he calls reputable news sources “fake news” and now “very fake news” and has his followers buying into to it is downright dangerous.

I have been in journalism for over 35 years and while many journalists I know tend to skew to the left in their personal politics, they work hard to make sure that the facts in every story have been verified. When citizens don’t believe the press, it allows government to get away with more corruption.
