A problem with 24 hour news stations is that they have to fill the time with something and compete with each other so everything becomes “breaking news”.

Prickly City: Times have changed


When I started in journalism, young reporters were mentored by older, more experienced ones. The buyouts and lay-offs have resulted in fewer of those experienced journalists ( who had higher salaries) in the newsroom and more newbies (who cost less). With practically no one to show them the ropes and fewer copy editors, mistakes are made.
